Who We Are at Power Washing Services, Inc.
Our Story
At Power Washing Services, Inc., we are proud to have been providing top-quality commercial cleaning services for over 40 years. Our journey started with a passion for creating clean and healthy environments for our clients, and that passion has only grown over time.
Rick and Lori Christian are the founders and original owners of Power Washing Services, which started in February 1982. Rick always had the desire to be a business owner. He was working at the time at Select Sysco Foods in Hayward CA and approached the manager if he could clean the interior of the trucks to aid in improving the morale of the drivers. He was always interested in keeping nice vehicles. From this humble start, Sysco asked Rick to have the outside and inside of the food vans to be cleaned.
Rick learned about using a pressure washer for this and bought his first unit and mounted it in the back of his 1971 Chevy El Camino. From there, Rick was asked to clean the concrete at the local movie theater. Then was asked to clean the sidewalks at a local shopping center. Rick found that cleaning concrete was what he liked and the service could be used in numerous places and continued to grow the accounts and the business for concrete cleaning, sidewalks, patios, and more.
A few years down the road Rick was asked to clean the blades of the windmills on the Altamont Pass. With clean blades, the performance and efficiency were much improved. Rick also expanded into doing residential jobs, cleaning driveways, patios, and redwood decks, and resealing them. The shopping center business grew over the years and accounts hit at the highest point a total of 128 shopping centers throughout the entire Tri-Valley and San Francisco Bay Area.
Other jobs and requests started to come in such as cleaning the concrete flooring inside a movie theater. Rick also manufactured, designed, and built another piece of equipment to aid in reclaiming the used water runoff. Grocery stores had us cleaning inside the dairy refrigerator boxes, and parking garages had us cleaning the parking structures.
In 1996, Rick was one of about 7 business people in the San Francisco Bay Area who formed the guidelines for proper cleaning practices for environmental purposes. These guidelines are through BASMAA, Bay Area Stormwater Management Agency Association.
The business has grown through the years to 13 employees doing both day and night time work. After over 40 years of running the business, we are ready to turn over the reins of the company to Abe Lahdo, who will be taking over and overseeing all practices for the business and with his leadership and passion will continue growing Power Washing Services as Rick did throughout the years and carry on for another 40 years!!
